Mac and Cheese

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces (about 2 cups) elbow macaroni or your favorite pasta
  • 4 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for topping)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions until it's al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour, salt, and pepper until the mixture is smooth and bubbly.

  3. Gradually add the milk while continuously stirring. Cook and stir until the sauce thickens and becomes smooth.

  4. Reduce the heat to low and add the shredded cheddar cheese. Stir until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is creamy. You can also add paprika for extra flavor.

  5. Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce and mix well.

  6. If you want a baked mac and cheese with a crispy topping, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mac and cheese to a baking dish.

  7. In a small bowl, mix breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese (if using) and sprinkle it over the mac and cheese.

  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes or until the top is golden and the cheese is bubbling.

  9. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

This homemade mac and cheese is creamy and satisfying. You can customize it by adding other ingredients like bacon, diced tomatoes, or cooked broccoli for extra flavor and texture. Enjoy your homemade mac and cheese!
