Philly Cheesesteak

A Philly Cheesesteak is a classic American sandwich that originated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It's known for its delicious combination of thinly sliced beefsteak, melted cheese, and sometimes sautéed onions and peppers. Here's how to make a Philly Cheesesteak:

Ingredients:

  • Thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin steak
  • Hoagie rolls or Italian sub rolls
  • White or yellow onion, thinly sliced (optional)
  • Bell peppers, thinly sliced (optional)
  • Provolone or American cheese slices
  • Salt and pepper
  • Olive oil or vegetable oil

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Steak:

    • Thinly slice the ribeye or sirloin steak. For the best results, it's important to have very thinly sliced meat. You can ask your butcher to do this for you or partially freeze the meat to make it easier to slice.
  2. Sauté the Onions and Peppers (Optional):

    • In a pan over medium heat, add a little oil and sauté the thinly sliced onions and peppers until they're soft and slightly caramelized. Set them aside.
  3. Cook the Steak:

    • In the same pan, heat some oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced steak and cook it quickly, just until it's browned and no longer pink. Season with salt and pepper while cooking.
  4. Assemble the Sandwich:

    • Split the hoagie rolls and place them under the broiler for a minute or two to lightly toast them.
    • Place the cooked steak on the rolls, then top with sautéed onions and peppers (if desired).
    • Lay cheese slices over the meat and vegetables.
  5. Melt the Cheese:

    • Return the assembled sandwich to the broiler for a minute or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Serve:

    • Close the sandwich, and your Philly Cheesesteak is ready to serve.

Traditional toppings for a Philly Cheesesteak include Cheez Whiz, provolone, or American cheese. You can choose your favorite cheese to top your sandwich. This delicious and savory sandwich is a favorite in Philadelphia and enjoyed by people all over the United States
