  Black Forest Cake

Traditional Black Forest Cake

Ingredients:

For the Chocolate Cake:

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

For the Cherry Filling:

  • 2 cans (15 ounces each) pitted tart cherries in water, drained (reserve 1/2 cup of juice)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

For the Whipped Cream Frosting:

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Decoration:

  • Chocolate shavings
  • Maraschino cherries

Instructions:

1. Chocolate Cake:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin; don't worry.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
