Cake Eyeball Ornaments
Ingredients and Materials:
- Fondant in white and various eye colors (like blue, green, or red)
- Edible food coloring (black or a darker color for the pupils)
- Small round fondant cutter or a straw
- Edible markers or food coloring pens
- Cornstarch or powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions:
Prepare Your Fondant:
- Knead the white fondant until it's smooth and pliable. Divide it into small portions for each eyeball color you want to create.
Color the Fondant:
- Add edible food coloring to each portion of fondant to achieve the desired eye colors. For variety, you can have blue, green, and red eyeballs.
Shape the Eyeballs:
- Take a small amount of colored fondant and roll it into a smooth ball. Use your fingers to shape it into a slightly flattened sphere.
Create the Pupils:
- With a smaller amount of black or darker-colored fondant, roll tiny balls to create pupils. Attach the pupils to the center of each colored fondant ball.
Make the Iris:
- Optionally, use edible markers or food coloring pens to add details to the colored portion, creating an iris effect. You can make them look bloodshot or add unique patterns.
Make the Blood Vessels (Optional):
- For an extra spooky touch, use a thin brush or edible marker to add red lines resembling blood vessels on the whites of the eyeballs.
Let Them Dry:
- Place the fondant eyeballs on a flat surface to dry. Allow them to dry for at least 24 hours to ensure they hold their shape.
Dusting:
- If needed, lightly dust the eyeballs with cornstarch or powdered sugar to prevent sticking.
Place on the Cake:
- Once the eyeballs are completely dry, carefully place them on your Halloween cake. You can arrange them around the tombstones or randomly for a spooky effect.
