Halloween Halloween 2023: Origins, Halloween | Definition, Origin, History, & Facts Meaning & Traditions

Ingredients:

  • 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the boiling water to the batter, mixing continuously. The batter will be thin, but that's okay.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Decoration Ideas:

  1. Spooky Spiderweb: Ice the cake with chocolate frosting and use white icing to create a spiderweb pattern on top.
  2. Pumpkin Patch: Ice the cake with orange frosting and use green icing to create pumpkin vines and leaves. You can add small pumpkin candies for extra decoration.
  3. Haunted Graveyard: Ice the cake with chocolate frosting, then use crushed chocolate cookies for the graveyard dirt. Decorate with cookie tombstones and gummy worms.
