Lasagna
Lasagna is a classic Italian dish that's loved for its layers of pasta, rich meat or cheese sauce, and melted cheese. Here's a traditional recipe for making lasagna:
Ingredients:
- 9 lasagna noodles
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef or Italian sausage
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 2 (6-ounce) cans tomato paste
- 2 (6.5-ounce) cans canned tomato sauce
- 2/3 cup water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 1/2 cups ricotta cheese
- 2/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until they're al dente. Drain and set them aside.
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef (or Italian sausage) over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the cooked meat. Cook for a few minutes until the onion is softened.
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, water, sugar, dried basil, and salt. Simmer the sauce for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
In a mixing bowl, combine the mozzarella, ricotta, and Parmesan cheeses.
To assemble the lasagna, spread a little of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Place three cooked lasagna noodles on top. Spread a portion of the cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by more meat sauce. Repeat the layering process until you've used up all the ingredients, finishing with a layer of meat sauce on top.
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the lasagna is hot and bubbling.
If desired, sprinkle chopped parsley over the lasagna for garnish.
Let the lasagna rest for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
This classic lasagna is a hearty and satisfying dish that's perfect for gatherings or a comforting family dinner. Enjoy your homemade lasagna!
