Halloween Spooky Chocolate Cake


Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 and 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

For the Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3-4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Decoration:

  • Halloween-themed decorations (candy eyes, plastic spiders, etc.)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cake:

    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
    • In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
    • Add eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
    • Gradually add boiling water, mixing well. The batter will be thin.
    • Pour the batter into the prepared pans.
    • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
    • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  2. Prepare the Frosting:

    • In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
    • Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, alternating with milk, and beat until smooth and fluffy.
    • Mix in vanilla extract.
  3. Assemble the Cake:

    • Once the cakes are completely cooled, spread a layer of frosting on top of one cake layer.
    • Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake with the remaining frosting.
    • Decorate the cake with Halloween-themed decorations.
  4. Serve and Enjoy:

    • Slice and serve your spooky Halloween cake at your Halloween celebration!
