Bread and Butter Pudding
Ingredients:
- 8 slices of bread (white or whole wheat)
- Butter, softened
- 1/2 cup raisins or sultanas (optional)
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of nutmeg
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
Butter each slice of bread on one side. Cut the slices into triangles or squares.
Arrange half of the bread slices in the prepared baking dish, buttered side up. If using raisins or sultanas, sprinkle half of them over the bread.
Place the remaining bread slices on top, creating a sandwich effect. Sprinkle the remaining raisins or sultanas over the top.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread slices, ensuring all pieces are soaked. Allow it to sit for about 10-15 minutes to let the bread absorb the liquid.
Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving.
