Meatballs with Lingonberry Jam



Swedish Meatballs:

Ingredients:

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1/2 lb (225g) ground pork
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Butter or oil for frying

For the Cream Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef or vegetable broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Serving:

  • Lingonberry jam
  • Mashed potatoes or boiled potatoes

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Meatballs:

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, chopped onion, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, ground allspice, ground nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix the ingredients until well combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

2. Cook the Meatballs:

  1. In a large skillet, heat butter or oil over medium heat.
  2. Fry the meatballs until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes.
  3. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.

3. Make the Cream Sauce:

  1. In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Stir in the flour and cook for a minute to create a roux.
  3. Gradually whisk in the broth and heavy cream, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
  4. Cook the sauce until it thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
